Our camp always has waiting lists even in this economy since we are mission driven and not business driven. We become part of your family for as long as you need us and will continue to help you for as long as you ask. No other camp will give that away for free!
With Camp Jump Start you know what you are getting. Our founder, Jean Huelsing has been background checked and finger printed by her school district and has an untarnished professional license in the states of Missouri and Illinois with privileges in other states. In this day and age--there is no one more trustworthy than a nurse AND teacher. Jean tied for Teacher of the Year 2010 out of 2700 teachers! Jean received an award and was Woman of Achievement in the St. Louis Region for her dedication to serving the needs of young people and promoting wellness. Jean oversees every aspect of camp since she lives at camp and works daily with each camper. You can rest assured that you will get your money's worth and have peace of mind while your child is at Camp Jump Start.

Our on-going relationship with families not only help the child but the entire family be the best that they can be. We are the camp that continues to care and help even after you quit paying us! It is a mission for us, not a business.
It is expected that families are responsible for getting the camper to and from camp, providing personal items, toiletries and if needed— paying for outside medical care/supplies or providing medications to camp through a designated unit-dosing system.
Camp Jump Start has been consistently the least expensive program in the nation for the 4 and 8 week programs--and we do not charge for gear, excursions or follow-up. We also will not offer a 3 week program again since our research showed that change in behavior was short-lived and the weight came back to most of the 3 week campers. Our outcomes are much better with the 4 and 8 week camps. Our goal is the success of your child to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Rates include the Shapedown Program and/or the Advanced Shapedown Program--- an additional value of $500 - $1000. We are an all-inclusive camp....no hidden or additional tuition fees once you are registered. Complete assessments by our registered nurse and registered dietician who live with and teach the camper are included at no additional charge. We also provide follow-up in the JumpZone to help you maintain your weight loss.
CJS does not offer partial session pricing. From our research it takes a full four weeks to break habits and form new ones. We want you to be successful. There are reunion camps in order to keep campers inspired---information on these are sent to previous campers.
Our 8 week campers are known as the Panthers. The 8 week program works on additional weight loss along with practicing the leadership skills they are developing through our camp programs. We spend more time on personal choice and menu planning for an additional take-home plan of action for the family. Lifetime friendships are fostered due to the extended period of time. The accommodations are a bit nicer too! The Panther Prowl for these campers includes an excursion to St. Louis area attractions. It is an introduction back to the outside world to practice new skills learned at camp and self-esteem will soar. It is an adventure and is included in tuition.
We highly recommend you call your insurance company for information on possible coverage and benefits for a weight loss program. Some insurance companies will reimburse a portion of the costs, but this responsibility is ultimately between you and your insurance company. Please contact your private insurance and speak with your benefits manager.
Notice that other camps who claim insurance coverage cannot guarantee that any portion of a camper’s tuition will be reimbursed by health insurance. Many do not ask about reimbursement until AFTER camp when you have already incurred expenses.
Please remember that the concern of an insurance company is to make a profit. While insurance can be a great help in achieving and maintaining good health, sometimes the coverage or policy provisions can begin to heavily influence treatment choices. YOU must make the well being of your child a priority.
Most FLEX plans will reimburse for weight loss programs when prescribed by a physician.
If you are needing assistance in financing the program--we suggest you contact your local credit union. We have found that you will receive much better rates and services from people you know and trust.
